Meeting the Challenges of NPfIT

NPfIT presents technical challenges, such as the need to upgrade infrastructure, migrate existing data and interface current systems, like Maternity and Accident and Emergency.

NPfIT also presents organisational challenges; for instance, the implementation of Roles-Based Access may challenge working practices.

However, by far the greatest challenge presented by NPfIT is the need to win the support of all staff, expecially clinicians, and to use that support to change care processes. Changed care processes could improve the patient experience and make the implementation of NPfIT more affordable.
